BENEFITS OF PEER SUPPORT

Loneliness, hopelessness, and stigmatization are often additional challenges faced by those with mental illness and/or recovering from trauma. Research shows the Peer Support can greatly benefit people as a complement to therapy because Peer Support Specialist have lived in perspective that give client empathic connection and support, destigmatization, and an example of recovery and hope. In addition, our services are inspired by WRAP to empower clients in their recovery process.

OUR APPROACH

Phone Call Away follows the ethical guidelines set forth by William White MA. The role of a Peer Support Specialist is: emotional support, informational support, instrumental support, and companionship. We draw our “…legitimacy from experiential knowledge and experiential expertise.” They do not diagnose clients in any capacity, provide counseling or refer to activities as “counseling” or “therapy” nor, focus on “issues” or trauma. We are inspired by WRAP approach and encourage clients to take an active role in their recovery.
